Emmaus Christmas Challenge

The other day I heard that Americans spend $480 BILLION on Christmas every year! To put that in perspective, to get clean water to every person on the planet would only cost $10 billion… and I’m pretty sure we could still have a pretty rockin’ Christmas with the remaining $470 billion.
Ready to do something? Take the Emmaus Christmas Challenge!
The Christmas Challenge works like this: 1) You commit to give away an amount equal to the total amount you spend on Christmas gifts for family and friends to an organization that exists to fight social injustice, or build clean water wells, or to equip single mothers with marketable job skills… you get the idea.
For example, if you spend $500 on Christmas gifts, then you’d write a $500 check to some organization like the Fermi Project or Operation Christmas Child. If you need help knowing where to give, there is a list of some organizations that are making a difference in the lives of people in need listed here.
2) You commit to make every gift you give a meaningful one. Instead of just buying someone the latest tech gadget or a tie… put some thought into it! That’s not to say that you couldn’t buy a tie or a gadget, as long as the gift is deeply meaningful. Christmas is a great time to let people know how important they are to you and that you feel blessed and honored to have them in your life… Let your gifts reflect those sentiments.
That’s the Emmaus Christmas Challenge… God so loved the world that he gave, and so will we! We’re asking everyone we know to take the Challenge and find ways to love the world this Christmas!
